Mainstream Press- The Collaboration Continues

Here are another couple of stories that illustrate why the American people still trust the Republican party anywhere but in a prison:

From our newspaper of record, The New York Times, this perceptive account of Sarah Palin's current bus tour to nowhere:

"The bus tour has sparked renewed speculation that Ms. Palin is making plans for a surprise entry into the 2012 Republican presidential race. If she decides to run, the bus tour suggests it will be as a nontraditional candidate who does not play by the usual rules of political campaigns."

Perhaps they have forgotten, or more likely, assume the American people have forgotten, this:

Yes, John McCain pulled the same stunt just four years ago, but to the New York Times, when Sarah Palin does it, " the bus tour suggests it will be as a nontraditional candidate who does not play by the usual rules of political campaigns."  And it doesn't even bother them that they are lying on behalf of a candidate who hates them and everything they stand for.  No, they know their real job, and it isn't telling the truth to the American people.

Now, here's another example of truth run under the Republican steamroller, with press assistance, in an Congressional Quarterly interview with Mitch McConnell, via Crooks and Liars:

"We only have to look back a week for a perfect example of this phenomenon, when Mitch McConnell said this in an interview with Congressional Quarterly:

 "Last week, the Social Security trustees issued a report saying Social Security and Medicare are not sustainable under their current structure."

Back in the day, when we had a functioning press corps instead of a cocktail-weenie-wagging press corpse; back when we had real reporters doing actual journalism instead of the steno-pool full of faithful scribes who can be counted on to regurgitate right-wing talking points unchallenged; back then, that sort of nonsense would have been a bit in the teeth of the reporter, who would have done his or her homework ahead of time, and McConnell would have been hammered mercilessly with the fact that the trustees said no such thing."

But of course, if the truth were to somehow leak out, the rich would lose their chance to panic the American people into letting them steal us blind, so once again, the lying Republican narrative is given a pass.

Now for what the press pretty much decided isn't worth reporting:

"A man who drove to Madison, Wisconsin to kill an abortion doctor faces federal charges for intending to attack a Planned Parenthood office in Madison, Wisconsin and murder abortion providers. Ralph Lang, 63, was arrested Wednesday night when his gun went off in his motel room not far from the Planned Parenthood clinic that he planned to attack Thursday. According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday in U.S. District Court Lang said he had a gun "to lay out abortionists."

This Christian terrorist came very close to carrying out his plan, but the story will be virtually ignored, because it might compromise the Republican narrative of hate toward Muslims.  In the meantime, any ludicrous story of Sharia law in the U.S. or any other supposed Muslim atrocity will be found to justify endless publicity.

Good bye truth- good bye democracy.
